About the Last Days

Eschatology – a beautiful word to describe the study of last days.

I guess that everyone who has a view that we are in the "last days"
as foretold many times in the Bible has their reasons. Some just think
we are because they have been told about it. Others because they have
been counting years and days and think the numbers add up. Some people
just "feel" it. Others look to the particular prophecies of Daniel,
Ezekiel, and others.

I have met only one person who sees the "end" for the same reason
that I see it, and it has nothing to do with the Prophets, but
everything to do with a tower built many thousands of years ago…

We are living in the last days, you know.

I find my evidence
in the word of God, the Bible, that God is readying Himself to
send His wrath on the earth and then His Son to defeat the
devourer and shorten the days "for the sake of the elect";
however, many times others have seen similar events that Jesus
mentioned and thought that they were living in the last
days. What really convinces me that we are living in the
last days now, however, is a story found in Genesis 11.
Here’s a section of it:

5 ¶ The LORD came down to see the city and the tower
which the sons of men had built. 6 The LORD said, "Behold, they
are one people, and they all have the same
. And this is what they began to do, and now
nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for
. 7 "Come, let Us go down and there confuse their
language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech."
(emphasis mine)

God confused their languages to put a rein on their ability to
communicate freely. Why? Because the way He made us, He knew that
if we worked together on a common goal (instead of killing
each other in wars), we would be able to discover the secrets of
and then master His own creation. He knew that we would harness
the very atom, to discover His incredibly complex method of
coding the makeup of His animal kingdon through genetics. He
created a single model and reused it with variation all over the
earth and in every species of animal. Although He is Infinite, He
demonstrated economy in design and manufacture. He created the
only fully successful closed biological system (the Earth) that
we are aware of.

But the people of the city that would become Babel (and later
Babylon according to legend) were beginning to dicover the
secrets too early, and God had to step in. Had he not confused
the languages, where would we be today? I refuse to speculate,
because the great I AM chose to stop that path before it had a
firm start.

For about 5000 years of known Bible history, we have lived in
ittle worlds on the surface of our larger world, Earth. The
confusion of languages had served its purpose well until one
language surfaced as a common language of science. For reasons
that I could perhaps speculate about, but will avoid for
the sake of economy and your wits, English has emerged in recent
years to be the common language for technologists. With the
apparent end of the cold war and the crumbling of the Soviet
bloc, we are seeing collaboration in the fields of science,
medicine, and art that have been impossible since the pre-Babel

And now I read the newspaper to see what I believe God saw at
the tower-that-would-be-Babel. Scientists are manipulating genes,
repairing what they believe to be damaged ones, altering genetic
sequences here and there, re-programming bacteria to produce
pharmaceuticals, re-coding viruses to deliver gene-altering
sequences to whatever host they are introduced into. We have
split atoms and released great force – both constructive and
destructive-, and are nearing the day when we will be fusing
atoms together under control and seeing even more energy
released. We are learning to mimic the very engines that God
built to serve Himself and His creation; the sun, gravity,
magnetism, genetics.

And soon nothing will be impossible to us…

Matthew 24 tells me what things will be like during the last
days. Genesis 11 tells me that we’re there.
